Boys from Huntingdon Gymnastics Club had a great competition at the Pipers Vale Gymnastics Centre in Ipswich last weekend, winning a number of medals. In the Regional Voluntary event, nine junior elite boys across 3 age groups took part and performed some excellent routines. In the U12 section Jake Jarman won Gold overall with a score of 69.30, as well as coming first on Rings and High Bar. 12 year old Owen Harrison took Bronze overall and finished 1st on Pommels and Parallel Bars, with Christian Norman counting six clean routines to score 60.75 to finish in 6th place from 17.
In the u14 age group Patrick Murphy took Gold with a score of 71.75, and came first on Pommels, Vault, Parallel Bars and High Bar. Joe Brown made 6 routines without major error to score 62.5, with James Cook close behind with 62.4 and Clubmate Harry O’Driscoll on 62.1. In the U16’s Tony Duchars and Benji Eyre had a great competition with clean routines packed with new elements. Tony scored 75.2 and Benji 72.9. All the boys competed with an air of style, presence and composure that was a real credit to their hard work in the gym.
The day continued with the Regional Recreation Competition. In the U10 Niall Hooton took Gold on Rings and Bronze on Bar. Ryan Cirino took Bronze on Rings, Silver on Floor and Gold on Parallel Bars. Kieran Birch took Silver on Parallel Bars and Gold on Floor.
Oliver King, Ned Belchier, Maximus Lyemere and Elliot Swinburne also competed and had a solid positive competition in what was for some, their first ever competition.
In the Under 12 category Oliver Rittell, Thomas Sherwin and Phoenix Saunders all took medals and Gregor Forrest claimed Silver on rings and Gold on Vault, with Toby Cave taking a medal for a superb vault in the same group.
