Eight boys from Huntingdon competed at the regional NDP qualifiers in Ipswich over the weekend in various age groups and levels, with three gymnasts qualifying to represent the East Region at the National Finals in Birmingham at the beginning of November.
In the Elite level 4 competition, Kieron Birch took the gold medal making him regional champion for the second year running, with team mate Niall Hooton taking the silver. Both put in solid performances across 6 apparatus beating gymnasts from 6 counties that make up the region.
The Elite Level 3 competition saw Bradley Cooper finish 5th, narrowly missing out on a place for national finals. Clubmate Sol Scott competed for the first times in the grades competition in the Elite under 8 category putting in some great routines to finish 7th in a strong field. Also competing were Jaden Coleman, pre-level 1 club grade with Charlie Newman and Oliver Harding competing in the level 1 in age category. All three boys were competing for the first time in the NDP pathway, with Jaden Coleman winning a silver medal and Charlie and Oliver working well in their first major competition.
The afternoon saw Joshua Papworth competing in the Club grade level 4 competition. Joshua put on a solid display with some very clean routines which earned him a well deserved Bronze medal, just 0.1 away from silver.
Preparations now begin in earnest for those boys who have qualified for the national finals in November, as they travel south for the London Open in a fortnight's time.
