Two members of the elite boys section of Huntingdon Gymnastics Club were in action over this weekend (3rd/4th Sept 2016) at the UK school games, held at Loughborough's sports complex. Topping the Hunt's pair was GB Top Squad member Jake Jarman, who worked solidly over six apparatus to take the all around bronze medal, with a score of 79.950. Competing in a high class field of gymnasts, Jake was a close 3rd to fellow England team member Joe Cemlyn-Jones. Scotland's gymnast, Pavel Karnejenko, narrowly took the individual gold.
Jakes efforts aided the England boys to a comfortable win to take team gold, almost ten marks ahead of Scotland in 2nd, who were over ten marks ahead of Wales in 3rd. Huntingdon's Benji Eyre was part of the Welsh team in his last and 6th consecutive Uk school games championships.
Jake then went on to take a clutch of medals, in the apparatus finals on day two. Having qualified for five finals, Jake produced faultless routines to secure silver medals on both floor and pommel horse and a bronze on parallel bars.
Benji Eyre now prepares to compete for Wales in the Northern Europeans, Denmark, in October. The boys coach, Ben Howells, is said to be delighted with the result particularly as it's the first competition after the summer.
