Huntingdon gymnasts Louis Smith and Tony Duchars have been named in men’s squads that will represent their Home Countries in the forthcoming European Championships, to be held in Berne, Switzerland next week.
Triple Olympic medallist Smith, 27, will represent Great Britain in the senior event, whilst Duchars, 18, will make up part of a 3 man junior team for Ireland. This is a vital selection for Smith, who continues his campaign to win another Olympic medal on his specialist apparatus, the Pommel Horse. Head Coach, Paul Hall, commented: ‘It is good to see that we are continuing a rich tradition of producing gymnasts of the highest calibre here at Huntingdon, and I think that Louis has every chance of continuing his current form as we head for the final selection for Rio when the Team is announced in July’.
Duchars, coached by Ben Howells, will make his European debut in Switzerland where he hopes to qualify for Pommel Horse final against some of the best juniors on the continent.
