'Louis Smith- back on his horse!'
Huntingdon Olympian Louis Smith maintained his reputation as one of the World's greatest pommel horse workers following a stunning performance at the English Gymnastics Competition, held in Loughborough over the weekend. Smith, 25, performed superbly to take the silver medal with a score of 15.85, with Max Whitlock of South Essex taking gold with 16.45. The two scores are amongst the highest recorded on this apparatus and will impress the selectors for the European Championships in Montpelier next month.
In the Junior category Jake Jarman was in fine form, finishing 7th all around and taking gold on the pommel horse, with Clubmate Patrick Murphy finishing 6th overall, winning gold on rings and silver on vault. Other notable results from Huntingdon members were Harry O Driscoll who finished 37th, and Tilly Allen for the junior girls who finished 20th. Tony Duchars and Ali Hussein competed as guests and represented their club well across the 6 disciplines.
The competition marked the start of the season's preparation, with the British Championships coming up in Liverpool in a fortnight's time. Following this, both Daniel Keatings and Louis Smith will be waiting for the team selection announcement for the European Championships in April.
